AddThis Customization (9 posts)

Anyone ever work with the AddThis plugin for WP (or any social media buttons widget) and customize the plugin to not display for a specific post type?

I have added the AddThis plugin to my site (jamacob.com) and it works fine EXCEPT it attaches to the text overlay on the slider in the header because the text overlays in the slider are driven by posts of post type = ‘Slider’. Let me know if you have sorted out how to have the social media widget NOT affix itself to posts of a certain type.

I would forget about the plugin, and use the standard AddThis code. This way you can place it wherever you like.

    Benjamin.

I had the same issue except only on mobile devices. I like the plug-in but I switched to TF Social Share and just picked the social media sites I wanted to display. I do not like it as much but did not know how to get rid of the metatag code showing above my header….

STEVE: Is there a place to locate the “Standard” code? Thanks…..

Goto Addthis.com, and Press “Get The Code”…

Yea, I figured all that out after asking the question.
Go to https://www.addthis.com/get/sharing#.TqbNyJuImU8 and get the “Website” Platform code, paste wherever in the template…

I grabbed the code — Pasted it at the very top of my article just doing a copy-paste on the HTML screen
Published it and there was just a white space at the top of my article?

Do I have to disable the other plug in I am using —- Is that why I had a white space that showed nothing?????

    Thanks!!!

Did you paste it into your actual Post, or your theme’s template?

Top of the one post on the HTML editor page

How do I plug it into my theme’s template? I am using Magazine Basic as my theme… 3 columns.

I suggest you come to the Genius Bar meetup and have someone show you:

You can read these articles, but if you place code in the wrong place, your site may stop loading:
