I’ve heard of VaultPress and Buckup Buddy to back up WP files, but they charge for plans. I wonder if it’s good enough to do it manually by exporting an XML file and downloading the WP install from the server to desktop via FTP?
I’d recommend downloading a copy of your mySQL database, rather than exporting the XML file, since the database will retain all of the settings (which the XML file will not).
I believe this video has info on backing up WordPress.
This database plugin does back-ups and lots more. We’ve used it on hundreds of sites.
Ocassionally there’s an issue with a VPS, otherwise it’s a gem.
