Howdy – I’m trying to figure out how to set up redirects from my client’s wordpress.com site to her wordpress.org site. I’ve tried a couple of plugins like ‘redirection’ but it doesn’t work. Maybe I’m a dummy – I’m new to redirects – but I found some documentation that said you have to set it up through wordpress.com itself, and even then it’s limited.

    Anyone have any experience/ suggestions?

    Thanks in advance,

    Tim

@Tim– WP.com doesn’t accept plugins. You need to log into the WP.com account. There are options there to redirect the site.

Hi Steve – I know wp.com doesn’t take plugins. They have an upgrade function on the site but the permalink structure has to be the same, and in this case it isn’t (I inherited an old structure). I wondered if there was a way to redirect the url itself. For eg: something.wordpress.com to something.com/blog and so on.

@Tim– there are plenty of redirect plugins you can install on the new site that should allow you to redirect properly. You may want to setup a test site on WP.com to get the redirects working properly first.

    Hi Steve,

Thanks – any plugins you recommend? I’ve tried a few of them and none of them seemed to do what I needed to do. Maybe I’m a dummy, but I just want to find one that works.

@Tim– I’ve used the REDIRECTION plugin before. Works well.

    Hi Steve – thanks! I’ll give it a shot . . .
